Wiring & Pigtails
When a repair goes past plug-and-play, this is the category you end up in: the pigtails, wire, connectors, switches, and harnesses that tie an RV's electrical system together. A pigtail — a short length of cord with a finished connector on one end and bare wire on the other — is the clean way to hardwire a surge protector, a converter, or an appliance without splicing into the middle of a run.

Wiring, pigtails, and connectors
Most RV electrical repairs come down to making a good connection. A pigtail saves you from cutting into an existing cord: you get a factory-molded plug on one end and bare, stripped wire on the other, ready to land on a terminal block or an appliance. The rest of this category is the supporting cast — switches, grommets, terminal studs, and the multi-pin harnesses that slide-outs and awnings use.
- Pigtails. Match the amperage, the plug (30-amp is the most common), and the length you need to reach. A right-angle end tucks into a tight bay better than a straight one.
- Wire gauge. Heavier wire (a lower gauge number) carries more current and drops less voltage. Undersizing wire on a long 12-volt run is a common cause of dim lights and weak pumps.
- Switch harnesses. Slide-outs, awnings, and jacks often use a keyed multi-pin connector, and a matching harness saves you from decoding the wiring one strand at a time.
- Grommets and studs. A grommet keeps a wire from chafing through where it passes a metal edge — cheap insurance against a short you'd otherwise spend a weekend chasing.
Finish the job with the right protection: a correctly rated fuse or breaker on the circuit, and a tested shore cord or adapter feeding it.
