Getting Started with Overland Solar
A solar setup has two essential parts: the panel that captures energy and a charge controller that safely feeds it to your battery. Most of our kits bundle both, so you can plug in and go.
The main choice is how you mount it. Browse solar panels and kits to compare the two approaches:
- Rigid panels: Permanent-mount panels for your roof or rack that generate power the moment you park, with no setup required.
- Portable folding panels: Deploy on the ground and chase the sun, so you can leave the rig in the shade while the panel sits in full light.
- Maintainer kits: Small panels that keep a starter or accessory battery topped off during long storage.
Solar works best as part of a complete system. Feed your charge into a proper battery and charging setup, and consider a DC-DC charger with an MPPT solar input to combine alternator and solar charging in one unit.
