Redoing or protecting an RV floor
An RV floor takes more abuse than one in a house. It twists as the rig moves down the road, swings from freezing to baking, and collects ground-in sand all season. That's why prep and adhesive matter as much as the flooring on top: a house-grade glue that can't handle movement lets seams lift within a season.
What to sort out before you start:
- Adhesive rated for RV movement. The LaSalle Bristol RMA adhesive is formulated for the flex and temperature range an RV floor sees. Its two-gallon pail covers a typical small-to-mid floor, so check your square footage against the coverage before buying one pail or two.
- Protecting a finished floor. Surface Shields carpet shield is a clear adhesive film you roll over existing carpet or vinyl during a renovation, keeping tools and grit off the good surface. It peels away clean afterward.
- Van and camper builds. The BedRug VanTred and VanRug liners are molded to specific wheelbases: ProMaster 118/136/159-inch, Transit LWB, and ProMaster City. Match the liner to your van's exact model and wheelbase or it won't sit right around the wheel wells and seat mounts.
- Cargo vs. comfort. Cargo liners like the VanRug run firm and tough for hauling; the VanTred and Husky Guardian Comfort mats add cushion underfoot for a floor you stand on all day.
Let fresh adhesive cure fully before you move the rig or wet-mop. Once the floor's down, keep grit off it with a step rug at the door and a patio mat outside so the new surface isn't taking abuse from day one.
