Picking the right RV patio mat
Woven polypropylene is what makes these mats work outdoors. Water and sand fall through the weave to the ground instead of pooling on top, so the surface stays dry to sit on, and air still reaches the grass underneath rather than smothering it the way a solid tarp would. Most flip to a second color, which doubles the wear before either face looks tired.
Points worth weighing before you buy:
- Size to your patio, not your rig. A 6' x 9' fits a couple of chairs and a small table; the 8' x 11' MG Innovative mat covers a full awning-width living area. Measure the shaded footprint under your awning and match it.
- Reversible vs. single-sided. The Lippert and MG Innovative mats flip to a second pattern, useful when one side takes a beating from the grill or the dog.
- Packed size and weight. Camco's Handy Mat folds to roughly 14.5" x 18", which matters when the pass-through bay is already full. Larger woven mats roll instead of fold.
- Staking and edges. Wind will sail a loose mat, so look for corner grommets or loops and plan on a few spiral ground stakes.
- Cab floor liners. The Husky X-act Contour trays are a separate job: laser-cut liners for models like the F-150, F-250/350, Ram 1500, and GM Silverado/Sierra that keep mud out of the truck.
Rinse or sweep the mat before you roll it up, since wet grass staining is the common gripe. To finish the path from ground to floor, add a step rug at the entry and protect the surface inside with the right interior flooring or liner.
