Setting up an RV cooktop and galley

Most RV kitchens run on a two- or three-burner propane cooktop, and much of what keeps it usable sits around the burner rather than in it: the regulator that feeds gas to it, the cover that turns cold burners into counter, and the safety gear within reach. Here is what to weigh.

• Gas regulators and range parts. A range that won't hold a flame or smells of propane usually needs a regulator, not a new stove. The Dometic RV35 gas assembly kit is a common replacement for that series, so match it to your model before ordering.
• Stove covers. Counter space runs short in a galley. A drop-on cover like the Camco Silent Top or a hardwood stove topper turns the burners into prep surface, and the padded versions quiet the rattle over rough roads.
• Countertop appliances and power draw. A Pinnacle 5-in-1 air fryer oven or an 800-watt toaster shines on shore power, but both pull heavy 120-volt loads. On a 30-amp hookup, run them one at a time and ease off the air conditioner.
• Fire safety. A UL-rated 5-B:C kitchen extinguisher, like the First Alert unit here, belongs mounted by the galley rather than buried in a drawer. Grease and propane fires are the two you are guarding against.
• Prep surfaces. A bamboo or hardwood cutting board with a counter edge stays put while you work, and collapsible bowls store flat when the galley is packed.

With the cooktop sorted, a range hood keeps steam and grease off the cabinets, and a built-in microwave handles quick reheats. Anything running off the LP system ties back to your propane supply and regulators.
