A/C Covers & Shrouds
Left in the sun, the plastic shroud over a rooftop A/C fades to chalk, turns brittle, and eventually splits; a few let go at highway speed. A replacement shroud rebuilds the housing, while a fitted vinyl cover such as the Camco unit for the Dometic Brisk II blocks the UV that wears it out during storage. Both live in this category.

Choosing an A/C cover or shroud
A shroud and a cover handle different jobs. The shroud is the structural housing bolted to the unit that shapes airflow, and you replace it once the original cracks. A cover is a vinyl or fabric wrap you drape over the whole unit while parked, mainly to block the UV that ages the shroud.
A few things to check before you buy:
- Fit by unit model. Covers and shrouds are cut to specific units. A wrap sized for a Dometic Brisk II will not seat correctly on a taller Coleman-Mach housing, so match the exact model and profile.
- Material and UV rating. Vinyl, like the Camco cover here, sheds water and holds up to sun better than plain fabric. Since UV is what splits shrouds, a UV-stable material does the real work.
- Storage vs. travel. Most covers are built for a parked or stored rig, not highway speed. If a listing is not travel-rated, pull it off before driving or it will shred.
- Venting and fit. A snug, vented cover stays put, lets moisture escape, and will not sail off in a gust. Loose covers do the opposite.
Cracked shroud? Replace it before the next trip, and inspect the internals while you are on the roof, since worn A/C parts and filters often hide beneath a broken one. For a rig stored outdoors all season, pair a rooftop cover with a full RV cover, and if the damage ran deeper than the housing, a replacement sits in RV A/C units.
