Where task lighting earns its place
Task lighting is about putting light exactly where a ceiling fixture can't. A bunk light throws a focused pool onto a book without waking the person next to you; a headlamp keeps both hands free when you're under the rig. Small fixtures, but the ones you reach for most.
- Hardwired vs. rechargeable. The Fasteners Unlimited fan/light combo wires into the 12-volt system and stays put over the bunk. The Performance Tool headlamp is rechargeable and goes wherever the job is — keep one in the rig for breakdowns and hookups after dark.
- Focused beam over spread. A reading light wants a tight, aimed beam so it lights the page and not the whole bunk. A task light or headlamp wants enough throw to actually work by — the 500-lumen headlamp here is bright enough for real repairs, not just finding your keys.
- Extra function. The combo unit adds a two-speed fan, which is worth it in a stuffy bunk where airflow matters as much as light. One fixture, one switch, two jobs.
