Leaf Springs & Equalizers
Leaf springs are a wear item — they sag, crack, and lose arch over years of load, and a tired set shows up as a trailer riding low on one corner or hammering hard over bumps. This category covers replacement trailer springs in 1,750 to 3,500 lb ratings, plus the Dexter shackle links, flange-nut bolt kits, and equalizers that wear right alongside them.

Sizing a leaf spring to your trailer axle
Replacing leaf springs is straightforward bolt-on work, but getting the right spring matters far more than the brand on the box. A mismatched spring either sags under load or rides like a brick, so measure and check the axle rating before you order anything.
Work through these before you buy:
- Capacity per spring. Match the spring rating to your axle. A 3,500 lb axle typically runs a spring rated near that figure; the AP Products line here spans 1,750, 2,000, and 3,500 lb in 3- and 6-leaf versions. Undersizing sags, oversizing rides stiff.
- Leaf count and length. More leaves carry more load but firm up the ride. Measure eye-to-eye or center-to-center — a 23-1/8" spring won't drop into a 24-7/8" hanger, same rating or not.
- Single vs double eye. Check whether your setup uses a straight double-eye spring or a slipper end; they mount differently and aren't interchangeable.
- Shackles, bolts, and equalizers. Springs rarely wear alone. Dexter shackle links, flange-nut bolt kits, and the equalizer between tandem axles all take the same beating — replace them together and upgrade to wet bolts if you grease often.
With the springs off, look over the rest of the running gear while access is easy. Bearings, U-bolts, and lug nuts live one category over in suspension upgrades, and if the trailer pushes or sways behind the truck, a weight distribution setup takes load off the springs and settles the ride.
