Choosing gooseneck hitch parts
Gooseneck hitches are truck-specific below the bed and load-rated above it. The rail kit bolts to the frame in a fixed pattern for your truck, and the ball mount or adapter on top has to carry your trailer's weight. Sort out fitment first, then capacity.
- Truck-specific rail kits. The under-bed rails and brackets are engineered for one truck. A Draw-Tite kit for a 1999-2016 Ford F-250/F-350 won't fit a Ram, and the GM Silverado/Sierra kit is its own part. Confirm year, make, model, and any cab-and-chassis exceptions before ordering.
- Ball and mount capacity. The ball mount carries the load. A Demco Recon mount rated 21,000 lb and a PullRite adapter rated 25,000 lb are built for heavy trailers, so match the rating to your loaded gooseneck weight with margin.
- Pop-in and flip-over balls. Factory and aftermarket gooseneck systems use a ball that pops into the bed socket, like the Reese pop-in for the GM system, and stows flush when you want a flat bed. Match the ball to your bed's socket system.
- Gooseneck-to-fifth-wheel adapters. If you have a gooseneck ball but want to pull a fifth-wheel trailer, an adapter like the PullRite ISR or the MORryde rubber-pin-box kit bridges the two. It's convenient, though a dedicated fifth-wheel hitch tows more smoothly for regular use.
