RV Water Pumps

When you're off city water, the 12-volt pump is what puts pressure behind your faucets. It pulls from the fresh tank and runs on demand every time you open a tap. This category has full demand pumps from single-fixture units to high-flow variable-speed models, plus the switches, valves, impeller kits, and silencing hoses to rebuild or quiet the one you've got.

Choosing and servicing an RV water pump

An RV demand pump is a 12-volt diaphragm pump with a pressure switch: open a faucet, pressure drops, the pump kicks on; close it, pressure builds, the pump shuts off. Sizing or fixing one comes down to a few numbers:

  • Flow rate (GPM). Match the pump to how many fixtures you run at once. A 1.0 GPM pump (the Remco) suits a small trailer or single fixture; 3.0-3.5 GPM (the Aquajet ARV) keeps pressure up when the shower and kitchen sink run together.
  • Fixed vs variable-speed. A standard pump cycles on and off, which can pulse the water. A variable-speed pump like the Aquajet ramps to demand for steadier, quieter flow: nicer in the shower and easier on the plumbing.
  • Self-priming and run-dry. Look for self-priming, which lifts water from the tank without manual priming, and run-dry capable, which won't burn up if the tank empties. The Shurflo 105-013 does both.
  • Repair vs replace. Pumps are rebuildable. A noisy or weak pump often just needs a new switch (Shurflo 94-800-05), valve assembly, or impeller kit rather than a whole unit, and a silencing kit with flex hoses cuts the vibration drumming through the cabinet.

Plumb the pump downstream of your fresh tank and ahead of a water filter if you filter on the outlet side; connections and shutoffs are in hose fittings & adapters. For winter, a hand pump like the Valterra kit pushes antifreeze through the lines, and the antifreeze itself is over in tank care & chemicals.
