Matching wall and ceiling fixtures

Failures in this group are usually visible — a cracked switch plate, a yellowed register, a soap pump that stopped. Swapping one is a screwdriver job; the real work is matching size and color so the replacement blends in.

• Vent registers. These are sized by cutout, not overall dimension. The RV Designer metal registers here fit a 4-inch by 8-inch cutout and carry an adjustable damper to shut off airflow to a room. Measure the existing hole first, then match the color, white or tan.
• Ceiling grills. A rotating grill like the B&B Molders unit aims air where you want it and lists the part number it replaces (301-016-00012) — check that against yours so it drops into the same opening.
• Switch plates and spacers. Face plates come in colors such as brown to suit older interiors, and a spacer shims a switch out flush in a thicker wall. Match the switch style and the plate color together.
• Push-button switches. Momentary and on/off/on push switches run things like fans and slide-outs. Match the function — momentary versus maintained — and the terminal layout to the circuit.
• Hand rails and fixtures. A vinyl-studded grab rail is measured stud to stud so it lands on solid backing; a sink soap dispenser matches by finish and mounting hole.
