RV Tongue & Landing Jacks
The front jack does the heavy work of coupling: lifting a travel trailer's nose off the ball, or dropping a fifth wheel's landing gear to take it off the truck. It carries the tongue weight every time you hitch, so capacity and lift height are the two numbers to get right. This category covers A-frame tongue jacks, fifth-wheel landing gear parts, drill adapters, caster wheels, and foot plates.

Matching a tongue jack or landing gear to your trailer
A tongue jack lives a hard life — it lifts the loaded nose of the trailer on and off the ball every single hitch, then holds it there while you back up and connect. Size it for that job, not just the number on the sticker, and the two figures that decide everything are capacity and lift height.
- Capacity. Size it above your tongue weight, not just at it — a 2,000 lb A-frame jack like the Fulton or BAL units handles a tongue load of a few hundred pounds with margin to spare. Landing gear on a fifth wheel is rated far higher because it lifts the whole front.
- Lift and mount. A-frame jacks bolt to the trailer's A-frame; check the lift travel (often 14") clears your hitch at both loaded and unloaded height. Fifth-wheel stacker jacks add extension to reach the ground on tall setups.
- Top-wind vs side-wind. Top-wind handles turn on top and clear tight A-frames; side-wind cranks from the side where headroom is short. Pick for the space you actually have.
- Powered options. A drill adapter like the Rieco-Titan TST-129 spins manual landing gear up fast, and a caster wheel or fold-up foot plate keeps the jack from digging into soft ground.
The tongue jack works hand in hand with the coupler, so a worn jack is a good cue to check the hitch and coupler too. Once you're parked and level, the front jack isn't meant to steady the rig — that's what stabilizer jacks are for — and a jack pad under the foot keeps it from sinking overnight.
