Choosing RV toilet chemicals
You dose these right at the toilet, sending them down the bowl after a flush to keep things fresh between dumps and help waste break down before it reaches the tank. The line between them and full holding-tank treatments is thin, coming down mostly to format and where you add them.
- Drop-ins. Toss-in packets such as Camco's TST MAX and Floral Flush drop-ins arrive pre-measured, with no pouring and no guessing at the dose. That makes them the path of least resistance for most people.
- Liquids and concentrates. TST MAX Orange Power and Star Brite Instant Fresh let you set the dose yourself and stretch a bottle across more dumps. Concentrates ask the least of your storage space per treatment.
- Scent. Lavender, eucalyptus mint, orange blossom, lemon: pick one you can stand in a closed bathroom. Heavy citrus formulas like Orange Power also help lift grease and film from the bowl.
- Starter kits. New to a rig? Valterra's kit pairs Potty Toddy chemicals with a hose and adapter, while Walex PortaPak is a two-pack that primes a fresh tank. Either gets you going without buying each piece on its own.
Whatever you choose, add water with it, since the chemistry needs liquid in the tank to work and to keep the seals from drying out. For heavier odor duty over long stays, step up to a full holding-tank treatment, and when the panel quits reading right, that falls to the tank sensors. These treatments suit standard gravity RV toilets and portable and cassette toilets alike.
