Matching a step rug or tread to your RV

The trick with step rugs is fit — a rug that's the wrong width or made for the wrong step platform won't wrap right and ends up sliding around or bunching under your feet. Measure your step width and know whether you've got standard fold-out steps or a MORryde StepAbove platform before you buy.

• Wrap-around rugs. These fold over the front lip of the step so they grip and catch debris on both surfaces. The Camco wrap-around runs 17.5 x 18 inches; Prest-O-Fit's Wraparound comes in 18-inch widths in colors like espresso and chocolate brown. Match the width to your step.
• StepAbove-specific rugs. If you've got a MORryde StepAbove, the Prest-O-Fit Trailhead rugs are cut for it — a single 17.5-inch for the 2-step, or a 19.5-inch 2-piece set for the taller stack. Generic rugs won't sit right on that platform.
• Non-skid tread strips. Where a rug won't fit — bare aluminum steps, or a bunk ladder rung — self-adhesive tread strips like the reflective Kwikee ones add grip and show up in the dark. They stick down and stay put.
• Replacement springs and treads. A rug that won't stay hooked usually just needs new mounting springs; Prest-O-Fit sells them in zinc-plated 4-packs. Bunk ladder rungs take slip-on rubber tread covers when the originals wear smooth.

If the step itself is the problem — worn, wobbly, or the electric unit's quit — that's the entry steps category. And a set of replacement rubber treads also freshens up the rungs on a bunk ladder that's gone slick.
