Sizing an RV sink and its drain parts
Two kinds of shopping happen here: replacing a basin, or fixing and accessorizing the one you have. Basins are chosen by mounting style and bowl size to fit your countertop cutout; the accessories — strainers, stoppers, covers, drainers — are about making a cramped galley work harder.
- Mount style. Surface- or top-mount sinks like the LaSalle Bristol stainless bowl drop into a countertop cutout and are the easiest RV swap. Measure your existing opening before ordering.
- Strainer and stopper fit. Drain hardware is sized to the opening — the JR Products strainer and basket kit fits up to a 2-inch drain, and the tail flange ties it to your P-trap. Match the drain diameter so it seats and seals.
- Sink covers. A hardwood cover, like the Camco oak board, turns the sink into extra counter and doubles as a cutting board — the single best space upgrade in a small galley.
- Dish drainers. Compact and mini drainer sets are sized to fit an RV basin so dishes drip into the sink instead of onto the counter.
- Washer drain pans. If you run a Splendide stackable, a Drain-A-Way pan catches leaks and overflow. Match the pan size to your unit's footprint.
The sink and faucet are a matched pair, so if you're replacing the basin, look at the galley faucet or bathroom faucet that mounts to it. Everything here drains to the gray tank, so if you're chasing a slow or smelly drain, the sewer and waste side is where the trap and tank connections live.
