Keeping your sewer hose sloped and draining

Left on the ground, a sewer hose sags into low spots where liquid collects and solids settle out — that's how you get a hose that smells and clogs. A support holds the whole run at a downhill angle so everything flows to the inlet and the hose empties clean. Pick one that matches your hose length and folds down small enough to store.

• Match the length to your hose. The Valterra Slunky comes in 10, 15, 20, and 25-foot troughs so you can support the full run without a gap. A support shorter than your hose leaves an unsupported sag at the end.
• Trough vs. telescoping frame. Accordion troughs like the Slunky are light and cheap and the hose lays in the channel; a telescoping frame like the Camco Sidewinder collapses to a compact length and the hose threads through curved cradles for a steadier slope on uneven ground.
• Adjustable slope. Chain-style and stepped supports like the Valterra Easy Slider let you dial in more drop where the ground is flat, which matters at sites where the inlet sits at grade.
• When gravity won't do it. If the dump inlet is uphill or far off, a macerator pump like the Pentair Shurflo grinds and pumps waste through a small-diameter hose, no slope required. It's the answer for below-grade or long-distance dumps.

A support does its job only if the hose itself holds up, so pair it with a heavy sewer hose that won't crush in the cradle. At the ground end, a clear elbow from tank fittings lets you confirm the run drained clean before you pack up.
