Gate & Dump Valves
The gate valve is all that holds your black or gray tank shut, so a seal that quits shows up as a slow weep or a mess at the outlet. This category covers the valves themselves in 2- and 3-inch, the cables and folding handles that pull them, quarter-turn handle kits, linkage for hard-to-reach setups, and a box of disposable gloves for dump day.

Choosing and rebuilding RV waste valves
An RV blade valve is simple: a flat gate slides across the outlet inside a seal, held closed until you pull the handle. Most of what goes wrong is the seal drying out or grit scoring the blade, and either one lets the tank weep. The good news is the whole assembly bolts together with a standard four-bolt flange, so replacing a bad valve is a wrench job, not a plumbing project.
- Valve size. The main black and gray outlets use 3-inch valves like the Thetford Basic Waste Valve; smaller drain lines and some gray runs use 2-inch bodies like the Valterra Bladex. Match the size to the pipe you're cutting into.
- Cable-operated handles. When the valve sits somewhere you can't reach — behind a skirt or up in the frame — a Valterra cable-and-handle kit (96" or 120", stainless core) brings the pull to a spot you can get at. The folding handle tucks flat when you're not dumping.
- Handle and linkage hardware. Broken or missing pull handles are common. The Thetford Valve Link linkage kit and Valterra's oval quarter-turn handle kit let you rebuild the control side without swapping the whole valve.
- Rotating and double valves. An Ell double rotating valve packs two shutoffs into one body where space is tight, and the rotating hub lets you aim the outlet.
Keep a pair of disposable dump gloves in the compartment — the Valterra 12-pack lives right here. When you're swapping a valve, replace the flange seals at the same time and check the tank fittings on either side; a fresh valve against a cracked adapter still leaks. If the tank itself is the problem, that's the holding tanks category.
